About our CYO sports program

The sports program within Queen of Peace CYO is committed to the mission of empowering young people to become responsible participants in their faith community.  Our coaches are ministers to youth and share the challenge of furthering the faith of their young athletes.  Our athletic programs develop Christian characteristics of dealing graciously in both victory and defeat.

Each team is required to perform a service project during the season.  These projects incorporate the service, spiritual, and social components of our mission while providing benefits to our community.

Player Eligibility

All 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls who are members of the parish are eligible to participate in CYO activities.  Track & Cross Country start at 4th grade and have a peewee program (1st –3rd grade) requiring a higher level of parent participation at practices and competitions.

We offer

FALL WINTER SPRING
Volleyball Basketball Baseball
    Softball
    Track (1st thru 8th)

Archdiocese CYO regulations do not allow any child to play the same sport for a school team and CYO team.

JV Sports are for 5th and 6th grades

At St. Eleanor our JV sports are instructional.  We make every attempt to have as many teams as needed and we do not cut athletes at this level.  We limit the size of rosters to allow for good playing time.  Parent’s reinforcement of their child’s commitment to the team is vital in making this work.

Varsity Sports are for the 7th and 8th grades

Varsity sports are competitive.  We do have cuts when our numbers require it.  If we have enough players we will form an additional team(s) to compete in a regional “Parish”league.  At this level, playing time is not guaranteed.

Behavior

We at Queen of Peace enjoy a very good reputation throughout the Archdiocese, both for our sportsmanship and quality of our teams.  We have worked hard over the years to maintain this status.  We think it truly reflects the character of our people.  It is however an ongoing process.  We always need to remember that we are a Catholic Youth Organization and that the behavior of our parents, as well as, our children must reflect this.

Conduct at the gyms/fields

Please do not drop your child off early.  Wait for your coach to arrive.  If another team's coach is in the gym/at the field, they cannot be responsible for your children.

Pick your child up on time.  Our coaches cannot leave until all children are picked up.  It is not fair to put any extra time burden on our coaches who already give so much. When your practice/game is over, clear the gym for the next team.  Move conversations outside into the hall. Pick up any trash around the fields or gyms.  Observe parking regulations at all gym and field locations.

Problems

If you have a problem with a sports team, first talk to the coach.  It is better not to talk immediately after a game as emotions are always running high.  Instead call and talk later when the children are not around.  If you cannot solve the problem please call the Athletic Director, and he will be glad to discuss any problem you have.  You also have access to the CYO board that can help you if he cannot resolve the issue.
