Queen of Peace CYO Track and Field Mission Statement:
The goal of Queen of Peace CYO Track and Field is to help make each member of our team to be the best athlete they can be. 

CYO Sports is one component of a parish’s comprehensive youth ministry program which enables the partnership of parents, coaches, priests, religious, teachers, and adult leaders to manage and support a sports program that allows youth to grow in their relationship with God and come to better understand themselves and the Catholic Faith.

Participating Events
100m, 200m (one quarter of a lap), 400m (one lap), 800m (two laps), 1600m (4 laps), 4x100m relay (each runner in a relay runs  100metesrs), 4x800m relay (each runner in the relay runs two laps)
Long jump, High jump, Shot put

Practice
Queen of Peace CYO Track and Field practices twice a week in order to strengthen and prepare for the week’s upcoming meet.  Practices run for roughly an hour.  The time and place of practice is subject to change depending on availability of a local track.  

Meets
Meets are held on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 at LaSalle College High School.  The schedule of events varies from week to week but races can range from the 100m to 1600m and field events such as: long jump, high jump, and shot put.   The dates of the meets are as follow: Sunday March 25, 2007, Sunday April 1, 2007, Sunday 15, 2007, Sunday April 22, and Sunday April 29, 2007. 

Age Divisions
There are three age groups in the Philadelphia Archdiocese Track and Field Program: novice, minor, and cadet.  These groups are done by year of birth and not grade level. 
Novice – Born in 1996 or 1997Minor – Born in 1994 or 1995 Cadet – Born in 1992 or 1993, or on or before September 1, 1991

 

 

Penn Relays
CYO Qualifying Event
The qualifying races will be held at Franklin Field at the University of Penn on Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007. All coaches and athletes should enter using the Northwest gate on 33rd Street, north of Spruce Street. The coaches’ meeting will be held promptly at 6:00 PM. The first races are scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM.

Team Track Hotline
There will be a team track hotline established and there will be more information to follow.  This will allow the coaching staff to relay information to the athletes on whether a practice or meet will be held or not held due to weather.

Championship Meets
The Region 10 Champs will be held on May 6, 2007, at Upper Dublin High School.  Area E Champs will be held on Sunday May 20, 2007, at West Chester University.  The Archdiocesan Championship meet will be on June 2, 2007, at Franklin Field.  The coaching staff will choose which runners run in which events for the Region 10 champs, and after that the runners must qualify to advance to the next championship level.  To qualify a runner most come in the top six overall in their event and top four in a relay event.
